Shaolin Rescuers (1979)

Also known as “Avenging Warriors of Shaolin”, Shaolin Rescuers is another Venom Mob filmed directed by Chang Cheh. The introduction and credit scene tells the story of the destruction of the Shaolin Temple by Pai Mei and the death of heroes San Te and Fong Sai-Yuk. In past ‘reviews’ I get critical of some of Chang Cheh’s over the top movies (I’m looking at you Five Elemental Ninjas). This is not one of those Chang Cheh films. The story is about a group of unlikely friends who band together to stand up against injustice. Very basic, tried and true martial arts plot and it works just as well in Shaolin Rescuers as it does in other films like this.

This isn’t a masterpiece, it is adventurous, fun, and more importantly very entertaining film. The story is enjoyable, the action is exceptional, and as you would expect from the members of the Venom Mob they work very well with each other in every scene.

You can currently watch Shaolin Rescuers on Amazon Prime.
