Another wonderful restoration from Celestial Pictures Limited. You may be able to find very old releases of Crippled Avengers titled as Mortal Combat and Return of the 5 Deadly Venoms. I’ve never been a fan of the multiple and various titles that can be given to martial arts films in the West. Directed by Chang Cheh this is another Venom Mob film that revolves around Revenge, Training Montages, Chang Cheh’s Trade Marked Gimmick Weapons, and an almost unbeatable opponent. More bare chested costumes but at least Chang Cheh didn’t make them metallic glitter! If it’s not broke, don’t fix it I always say. The film is very enjoyable with fantastic martial arts. I definitely enjoyed Chiang Sheng’s acrobatics! The movie is by no way original but it is enjoyable.
Chen Kuan-Tai (The Water Margin, The Iron Monkey 1977, 14 Blades) as Black Tiger Dao Tian-Du the main villain
Phillip Kwok Chun-Fung (One-armed Boxer vs. the Flying Guillotine, The Brave Archer, Masked Avengers) as Chen Shuen who gets blinded
Sun Chien (Invincible Shaolin, The Kid with the Golden Arm) as Hu Ah-Kue gets his legs chopped off.
Chiang Sheng (Sword Stained with Royal Blood (1981), 18 Shaolin Disciples, The Brave Archer Part III) as Wang Yi. The young swordsman who becomes simple in the head.
Lu Feng (Ten Tigers of Kwantung, Mr. Vampire) as Dao Chang
Johnny Wang Lung-Wei (Invincible Shaolin, The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter) as Keeper Wan
