Xun Yu

Episode 11: Tao Qian offers Xu Province thrice

  • Tao Qian (Gongzu) discusses with his son on the defenses of Xu Province as they expect retaliation from Cao Cao due to the death of Cao Song by their soldier Zhang Kai.
    • Tao Qian sends his son to three people as they are five days march of Xuzhou for help against Cao Cao
      • Yuan Shao of Jizhou

  • Cao Cao and Xun Yu discuss the legalities of invading Xu Province
  • Cao Cao confronts Tao Qian at the front gates of Xuzhou and tells him he will take the city in two days.

Episode 12: Lü Bu is defeated in battle and seeks shelter under Liu Bei

  • Cao Cao orders once the city of Xuzhou is taken that all its citizens shall be slaughtered, as they don’t have enough food to feed war prisoners
  • Xun Yu informs Cao Cao that Lu Bu launched a sneak attack on Yanzhou (Cao Cao’s military headquarters) while the bulk of Cao Cao’s military are besieging Xuzhou and that Chen Gong is advising Lu Bu.
  • Cao Cao orders a retreat back to Yanzhou
  • Tao Qian offers Liu Bei Xu Province, Liu Bei refuses again.  Tao Qian then offers him the border city Xiaopei to garrison in temporarily. Liu Bei accepts.
  • Cao Cao defeats Lu Bu at Yanzhou
  • Tao Qian on his death bed offers Xu Province once more to Liu Bei.  He accepts the role temporarily until an Imperial order is given about who should rule.
  • Lu Bu, along with 8,000 Calvary, goes to Xuzhou after his defeat by Cao Cao in hopes of forming an alliance with Liu Bei. Liu Bei accepts
  • Lu Bu and Chen Gong plot on how to use Liu Bei
  • Cao Cao and Xun Yu plot on how to deal with Liu Bei and Lu Bu

Episode 13: Cao Cao saves the emperor and controls the warlords

  • Dong Cheng sends Cao Cao a secret message from the Capital in Chang’an. Li Jue and Guo Si took control of the emperor but then fought each other.  The Emperor and his advisers are fleeing the capital and are desperate for help.
  • Yuan Shao also gets the same message. His advisors Xu You & Tian Feng each suggest different advice on dealing with it.  Xu You is for helping the Emperor, Tian Feng is against.
    • Yuan Shao decides to ignore the imperial order and marshal his troops to invade the You Province instead.
  • Cao Cao captures the Emperor at Luoyang. He forces the Emperor to move the capital to Xuchang.
  • Yuan Shao regrets not taking Xu You’s advice.  He will marshal 150,000 warriors and invade You and Bing.  Then go fo Cao Cao
  • Cao Cao decides since Yuan Shao is busy with Gongsun San of the You Provence, and Yuan Shu is planning for the hegemon south of the Yangtze that he should strike for the Central Plains and go for Xu Province.
  • Cao Cao and Xun Yu hatch a plot to drive a wedge between Liu Bei and Lu Bu.

  • Liu Bei discusses the secret order from the ‘Emperor’ to invade Yuan Shu
  • Yuan Shu receives a secret message from Cao Cao saying Liu Bei petitioned the emperor that Yuan Shu want’s to become Emperor
    • Yuan Shu plans a way to use Lu Bu against Liu Bei
  • Zhang Fei is left in charge of Xuzhou. He gets drunk and beats Cao Bao, cousin of Lu Bu
  • Lu Bu uses the abuse of his cousin to attack Xuzhou
  • Cao Bao opens the South Gate and allows Lu Bu into Xuzhou
  • Zhang Fei kills Cao Bao.  Lu Bu takes the city
  • Realizing that Yuan Shu was in front of him and Lu Bu behind him Liu Bei retreats to Xiaopei
  • Yuan Shu pays Lu Bu not to interfere if he attacks Xiaopei

Episode 15: Lü Bu shoots an arrow through a halberd

  • Lu Bu hosts a dinner with Liu Bie and Ji Ling, he gets the impending battle on Xiaopei called off.
  • Sun Ce has taken Lujiang for Yuan Shu
  • Sun Ce pays respect to his fathers tomb (Sun Jian who died in episode 7)
  • Sun Ce offers Yuan Shu the Emperors Jade seal in exchange for Zu Mao, Cheng Pu, Huang Gai and Han Dang to go back and protect his ancestral home of Qu’e.
  • Yuan Shu declares himself Emperor, Zhongshi is his dynastic title and his capital was in Shouchun
  • With Yuan Shu’s deceleration hostilities rise among the warlords.

Episode 16: Cao Cao defeats Yuan Shu in battle

  • Cao Cao sends a proclamation across the realm for all regional lords to support the Emperor against Yuan Shu
  • The Emperor gives Cao Cao the title of Regent-Marshal and control of the armies
  • The Emperors (Cao Cao’s) army leaves from Xuchang to confront Yuan Shu in Shouchun
  • The Emperor of Zhongshi, Yuan Shu, is offering a marriage between his son and Lu Bu’s daughter.
  • The Emperor Xian of Han has ordered Lu Bu to combine forces with Cao Cao and has given Lu Bu official status as protector of Xu Province.
  • None of the Regional Lords send troops to aid Cao Cao, however Liu Bei (not a regional Lord) has shown up with a couple thousand troops.
  • Cao Cao is victorious and Emperor of Zhongshi, Yuan Shu is on the run.

Episode 17: Lü Bu falls for Cao Cao’s trick and loses Xu Province

ChenGui

  • Guo Jia informs Cao Cao that Chen Gui and his son Chen Deng sent a letter that they have gained Lu Bu’s trust
  • Cao Cao wants them to sow discord between Lu Bu and Chen Gong. Also estrange Lu Bu from Liu Bei which would give Cao Cao the advantage he needs to conquer Xu Province
  • The Chen’s do their job and Lu Bu orders an attack on Liu Bei, Guan Yum, and Zhang Fei at Xiaopei. Lu Bu leaves the Chen’s to protect Xuzhou
  • Chen Gong objects to having Chen Gui & Chen Deng protect the city and convinces Lu Bu to split them up, taking Chen Deng with them and Chen Gui to guard the city.
  • Chen Gui has bribed the remaining officers to submit to Imperial rule (Cao Cao)
  • Liu Bei sends Mi Fang to warn Guan Yu and to ask Cao Cao for reinforcements
  • Cao Cao is three days march from Xuzhou
  • A secret message arrives from “Cao Cao” asking Liu Bei to join forces on the next day.  The message is from Chen Gong.
  • They march out to meet “Cao Cao” only to run into Guan Yu and his men.  It is then Liu Bei realizes he has been tricked by Chen Gong.
  • Lu Bu shows up with his army and the battle commences.
  • Chen Deng uses the distraction to leave and go back to Xuzhou
  • Lu Bu runs into Cao Cao and Cao Cao admits to sending the secret letter but it was intended for Chen Gong to intercept so Lu Bu would attack Liu Bei.
  • Liu Bei tells Cao Cao he is ruthless. He must join with Cao Cao to save Zhang Fei & Guan Yu
  • Chen Gong informs Lu Bu that Cao Cao’s army has arrived.  Lu Bu orders a retreat for Xuzhou
  • Chen Gui refuses to raise the draw bridge and open the gate for Lu Bu and his remaining army.
  • Lu Bu then retreats to Xiape
  • Liu Bei is reunited with his brothers Zhang Fei & Guan Yu
  • Cao Cao reaches Xiape the next day

Episode 18: Lü Bu meets his end at White Gate Tower

  • Lu Bu meets with Cao Cao and is almost talked over to joining him when Chen Gong shoots an arrow at Cao Cao and misses.
  • Chen Gong comes up with a strategy that might save them
  • Diao Chan is sick and Lu Bu refuses to leave her side, ignoring Chen Gong’s warnings and strategy
  • Some of Lu Bu’s officers read a letter from Cao Cao offering gold for Lu Bu’s head.  Lu Bu demotes them and gives them 50 lashes.  In return they capture Lu Bu and offer him to Cao Cao
  • Cao Cao takes Xiape
  • Zhang Liao is given the option to serve Cao Cao or be on his way instead of executed.  He chooses to serve.
  • Chen Gong chooses death over serving Cao Cao
  • Diao Chan chooses to join Lu Bu in death, Cao Cao commands that Diao Chan be spared, only Lu Bu will die
  • Cao Cao promises to take care of Chen Gong’s elderly mother before he is executed

Episode 19: Liu Bei receives an imperial decree and swears to destroy Cao Cao

  • Xun Yu advises Cao Cao not to get involved with Diao Chan
  • Diao Chan prepares Lu Bu’s body for burial
  • Xun Yu talks to Xu Chu about Cao Cao’s interest in Diao Chan, Xun Yu manipulates Xu Chu to kill Diao Chan
  • While having dinner with Cao Cao, Diao Chan pulls out the Seven Star Dagger and kills herself.
  • Now that he has the Xu Province Cao Cao now sets his sites on Yuan Shao
  • Cao Cao asks his three advisers Xun Yu, Guo Jia, and Cheng Yu what to do about Liu Bei.  It is decided for him to be Protector of Xu in name only and he can reside in Xiape
  • Representatives of the people of Xuzhou petition Cao Cao to allow Liu Bei to return to Xuzhou and be reinstated as the Protector of Xu.
  • This popular support of Liu Bei angers Cao Cao and he refuses to allow him to stay in Xu Provenience, he informs only his council not the people of Xuzhou.
  • Cao Cao insists that Liu Bei return with him to Xuchang (the capital)
  • The Emperor Xian of Han bestows the title of Prime Minister onto Cao Cao
  • Liu Bei meets the emperor, it is proven he is the 18th grandson of Emperor Jing and thus a royal relative (Imperial Uncle), albeit a minor one. Liu Bei is bestowed the title of General of the Left and Marquis of Yicheng
  • Cao Cao is upset about the titles given to Liu Bei
  • Cao Cao takes the Emperor on a hunt with the court and army.  After humiliating the Emperor Cao Cao judges the reactions to see who is loyal to him
  • Liu Bei gets a summons from the Emperor to visit

Episode 20: Cao Cao discusses about heroes over drinks

  • Liu Bei visits the Emperor, has his audience in the toilet to avoid Cao Cao’s spies
  • The Emperor begs Liu Bei to rid him of Cao Cao who has stolen the Han Dynasty
  • Emperor Xian has consort Dong sew a royal decree within his girdle.  He will pass it on to her father, Dong Cheng at a temple.
  • The Emperor leaves the temple and leaves behind the girdle for Dong Cheng to collect.
  • When Dong Cheng is leaving he is intercepted by Cao Cao, he sees the girdle and confiscates it.
  • Dong Cheng brings the edict from the girdle to Liu Bei. It requests that he find all those loyal to Han and remove Cao Cao
  • Cao Cao summons Liu Bei
  • Xun Yu reports that Yuan Shao has obliterated Gongsun Zan
  • Yuan Shu’s men have mutiny, he offered the royal seal to Yuan Shao and to join forces
  • Liu Bei promises to capture Yuan Shu and bring him before the council or suffer military punishment if he doesnt bring him back in 15 days
  • Liu Bei gets 50,000 men and they must  travel 150 miles in a day.
